A workshop on the world's leading models in the field of applied systems analysis in sustainability, with a focus on energy and air pollution. Hosted at the Archimedes Center, a new knowledge center managed by Tel Aviv University and IIASA.
At the center, named after the Greek mathematician Archimedes, scientists conduct interdisciplinary research on sustainability and address future challenges in Israel. The center's mission is to enhance systems analysis in research and policy within Israel.
This inaugural workshop will start with an introduction to the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment program and systems analysis. Keywan Riahi, Volker Krey and Fabian Wagner will present the collection of models.
Researchers will be introduced to the following modeling frameworks and the Israeli model development process:
- The Model for Energy Supply Strategy Alternatives and their General Environmental Impact (MESSAGEix) workshop, presented by Volker Krey, will introduce the key features of the framework and demonstrate their benefits and existing recent extensions: MESSAGEix-IL Overview, Ayelet Davidovitch, TAU, MESSAGEix-Nexus Module, Adriano Vinca, IIASA, MESSAGEix-Buildings, Alessio Mastrucci, IIASA.
- The Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies (GAINS) model workshop, presented by Fabian Wagner, will also introduce key features and benefits, as well as review the status and future plans for the Israeli GAINS model and discuss how Israeli researchers can become involved.
