IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber will be a speaker at the upcoming consultation, Big Ideas Have Changed the World: Universal Fraternity as a Path Forward. This unique event brings together global thought leaders to explore how the concept of universal fraternity can address today’s interconnected crises—from environmental degradation to socio-political fragmentation.

Rooted in the inherent dignity of every human being, universal fraternity proposes a holistic vision of humanity that transcends divisions, fostering stronger relationships and sustainable systems. The three-day consultation will feature interactive sessions and open discussions focusing on integrating universal fraternity into key domains of social life, such as economics, politics, technology, peacebuilding, and ecology.

Schellnhuber will join the discussion on Saturday, 8 February during a session titled Universal Fraternity and the Ecological Crisis. As one of the world’s leading climate scientists, he will share insights on how a fraternity-driven approach can reshape ecological stewardship and inspire collective action to combat the environmental challenges facing humanity.

The organizers will produce a series of short, impactful video essays to broaden the reach of the ideas generated.
