IIASA in collaboration with the NRF is bringing together key stakeholders of the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Member Organization (SSARMO) in a series of events leading up to the World Science Forum (WSF).

Since 2015, the African Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) have hosted an annual series of high-level dialogues and engagements to strengthen partnerships, share experiences, provide network opportunities, and discuss practices on a range of emerging topics.

In 2022, IIASA will collaborate with the NRF to host two events to promote the 50th Anniversary of IIASA and systems analysis:

 

High-level Panel Discussion

Date: Sunday, 4 December 2022

This panel discussion, hosted by IIASA and NRF, is designed to position SSARMO with Heads of Research Councils in Africa and reflect on priority focus areas within the continent. IIASA will furthermore provide an overview of its global and regional influence and impact during the past 50 years and outline new ways for effective engagement of SSARMO for the future.

Academic Symposium

In response to the demand for increase investment and impact of science, through innovative partnerships, the National Research Foundation (NRF), German Research Foundation (DFG), SGCI, and IIASA will be hosting a one-day workshop on 6 December 2022 in Cape Town, alongside the WSF.

Among others, the workshop will:

  • present highlights of select projects funded under the SGCI
  • highlight the application of system approaches research and skills development in projects
  • present opportunities to further deepen and sustain our networks among SGCI partners

The session will bring together prominent researchers, early career researchers, students, funders, and decision-makers within and outside the African continent.
