Johanna Mikl-Leitner, the Governor of Lower Austria, visited IIASA last week to strengthen ties between the Institute and the Province of Lower Austria.
Located in Schloss Laxenburg, IIASA’s headquarters lie within Lower Austria, making regional collaboration particularly significant. Austria is also one of the Institute’s founding members, and IIASA greatly values the strong cooperation with its home country that has developed over the years.
During the visit, IIASA leadership presented the Institute’s mission, research priorities, and international role, with a particular focus on projects of relevance for Austria and especially the Province of Lower Austria. Discussions also addressed IIASA’s site development, highlighting current needs and perspectives for future growth, as well as potential opportunities for support from the provincial government.
“Governor Mikl-Leitner’s visit highlights the strong partnership between IIASA and the Province of Lower Austria. We look forward to building on this collaboration as we shape the Institute’s future,” noted IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an open exchange with a shared outlook on future collaboration.
Governor Mikl-Leitner was welcomed by Schellnhuber and Chief Operations Officer, Christiane Pohn-Hufnagl. The delegation also included Nikolaus Dafert, JVP District Chairman; David Berl, Mayor of Laxenburg; and Mag. Martina Hoellbacher, Head of Department, Division of Culture, Science, and Education, Department of Science and Research.
