IIASA, Korea National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) and the University of Seoul are co-hosting an international symposium on Climate Risk Management and Adaptation, taking place in Seoul, South Korea on June 14th 2024.

IIASA’s Systemic Risk and Resilience (SYRR) group (ASA program) colleagues Jung Hee Hyun and Reinhard Mechler will present and participate in the event.

The recent UN COP27 and COP28 underscored the urgent need for responsible action to combat climate change, emphasizing adaptation strategies, financial support, and robust monitoring mechanisms. It is imperative not only at the global level but also at the regional, national, cities and local scales playing a pivotal role in setting resilience goals and implementing effective adaptation measures. The symposium aims to catalyze a global discourse on climate change adaptation, focusing on sharing international of best practice on climate impact, vulnerability, and risk assessment, as well as exploring directions for policies and research strategies on climate adaptation. Presenters will share their expertise and best practices in utilizing various tools and platforms for climate risk assessment and resilience-building measures. Additionally, discussions will center around the production of reliable adaptation information and its future development trajectory.

The symposium will bring together experts on climate risk and adaptation from various disciplines and application areas.
