The first seasonally updated global annual cropland map at 10 m resolution will be officially released in an open webinar organized within the WorldCereal project.

The European Space Agency (ESA) and the WorldCereal Consortium will present the first global seasonal updated temporary crop and crop type (maize and cereals) maps as outcome of the WorldCereal project. These maps are based on the EU-Copernicus satellites (Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2) in combination with NASA’s Landsat data. The maps will be released during the upcoming webinar where a particular focus will be put on how these were produced, including the classification algorithm, how these were validated, and how the maps can be visualized.

Webinar Agenda:

•    Introduction of the WorldCereal project
•    In situ data harmonization and use
•    Methodology and products
•    Validation
•    WorldCereal viewer
•    Q&A session

Several colleagues from the Novel Data Ecosystems for Sustainability Research Group (NODES) at IIASA have been involved in the WorldCereal project: Juan Carlos Laso Bayas has been coordinating the IIASA team in charge of reference data and validation, Santosh Karanam provided supported data collection and developed the World Cereal Reference Data Module and Myroslava Lesiv lead the validation of the maps.
