UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 is at the core of the 2030 Agenda as access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy is interlinked to many SDGs, including poverty eradication, food security, health, education, prosperity, jobs, transport, gender equality, and climate change.

Published annually, the Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report provides the most comprehensive look available at the world’s progress towards global energy targets on access to electricity, clean cooking, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. Prepared by the custodian agencies for the SDG 7 indicators, this year’s report gives the international community the latest global dashboard to register progress on the SDG7 targets.

IIASA researchers have contributed to a series of policy briefs on SDG 7 and its interlinkages with other SDGs which are compiled by the multi-stakeholder SDG7 Technical Advisory Group (TAG). Deputy Director General for Science, Leena Srivastava and Emeritus Research Scholar Nebojsa Nakicenovic are members of the SDG7 TAG group, composed of experts from governments, UN organizations, International Organizations and other stakeholders, convened by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs,  in support of the High Level Political Forum. Researchers from several IIASA programs commented including: Edward Byers, Florian Kraxner, Shonali Pachauri, and Caroline Zimm.
