Biography
Carl-Friedrich Schleussner leads the Integrated Climate Impacts (ICI) Research Group in the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. Prior to this, he served as the Head of Climate Science at Climate Analytics in Berlin, Germany. He is also an Honorary Professor at the Geography Department and the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems at Humboldt University Berlin.His research spans a wide range of spheres from extreme climate events and climate impact projections to tipping elements and the societal implications of climate change. Schleussner has a specific interest in scientific questions surrounding the context of international climate negotiations and questions of climate overshoot. He has published extensively on these topics, both in the form of scientific peer-reviewed articles and policy reports.
In 2020 and 2021, he was elected as one of Germany’s Top 40 under 40 by Capital-Magazine. He is the consortium lead for the Horizon 2020 PROVIDE project, the ERANET-Axis project LAMACLIMA, and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) EmBARK project. He is also a work package leader of the Horizon 2020 projects CONSTRAIN and SPARCCLE.
Schleussner holds a PhD from the University of Potsdam and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
