Pollution Management (PM)

The PM Group focusses on solving immediate and near-term environmental (health and ecosystems impacts from pollution), climate (non-CO2 greenhouse gases), and social (widening inequality gaps) problems in a cost-effective way, providing support to policymaking at local and regional scales.

Austria

Austria is the host country of IIASA. The Austrian Academy of Sciences is the National Member Organization (NMO) representing Austria and entrusts the Austrian IIASA Committee with oversight of IIASA.

Brazil was a member of IIASA in the years 2011-2024, represented first by the Center for Strategic Studies and Management (CGEE) and later by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES).

The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is China’s National Member Organization (NMO).

The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) is Egypt’s National Member Organization (NMO).

Finland

The Finnish Committee for IIASA is the National Member Organization (NMO) representing Finland. The Academy of Finland appoints the members of the committee and finances the annual membership fee.

The National Member Organization (NMO) for Germany is the German Association for the Advancement of IIASA. Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funds the NMO and the IIASA annual membership fee.

India’s Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) represents India and its scholarly community at IIASA. TIFAC has established a national committee for the India–IIASA Programme to oversee research collaborations and capacity-building activities between the Indian research community and IIASA.

The Indonesian National Committee for IIASA (INCASA) was the National Member Organization representing Indonesian membership of IIASA until 2024.

The Iran National Science Foundation is the National Member Organization representing Iran membership of IIASA.

Israel

The Israel Committee for IIASA, which is made up of representatives from Israeli universities, government ministries and the public, represents the Israeli membership of IIASA.

Japan

As one of the IIASA founding organizations, the Japan Committee for IIASA has helped develop a highly-productive relationship between IIASA and Japan. The Japanese Ministry of the Environment funds IIASA’s annual membership fee and NMO activities.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan became a prospective member of IIASA in 2020 through the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan.

The National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) is the National Member Organization (NMO) representing Korean membership of IIASA as well as funding IIASA’s annual membership fee.

Malaysia officially became a member of IIASA in 2011 through the Academy of Sciences of Malaysia.

Norway

The Research Council of Norway (RCN) has been the National Member Organization (NMO) representing Norwegian membership of IIASA since Norway became a formal member of IIASA. RCN has established a reference group in Norway to discuss and advise on matters regarding IIASA.
