The culmination of the VEF Series will witness the launch of three global programs addressing the needs of developing countries and emerging economies, and unlocking opportunities to pursue the energy nexus with the three end-use sectors.

Guided by the theme "Accelerating Energy Transition," the platform will explore the pathways that stimulate demand and promote economic recovery in three end-use sectors:

  1. Food Systems: The sessions in the Food Systems Track will serve as a platform to discuss pathways to better align the energy transition with the food systems transformation, focusing on opportunities in developing countries.
  2. Industry: The sessions in the Industry Track will explore the integration of sustainable energy in the industrial sector.
  3. Products: The sessions in the Products Track will focus on energy efficiency in building-related products, specifically addressing the efficiency of appliances.

IIASA, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Austrian Development Agency, and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs are part of the platform’s Steering Committee.

All sessions will take place from 14:00 to 15:30 CEST.

The Vienna Energy Forum

VEF is a biennial global, multi-stakeholder forum with the objective of exploring developmental challenges within the realm of sustainable energy. The forum introduces a platform for policy- and decision-makers from all sectors of society to conceive practical solutions to sustainability issues. Since its founding in 2008 by a joint initiative of the Austrian Government, IIASA and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, VEF has assembled thinkers and practitioners from all over the world to discuss practical solutions to sustainable development challenges and pave the way for tangible partnerships on the ground.
