The National Research Foundation (NRF) and IIASA are hosting a webinar to build stronger systems analysis linkages in South Africa.

South Africa, through the NRF has been a member of the IIASA since 2007. During this time, South Africa in partnership with IIASA, has made great progress in developing and strengthening systems analysis research, training and skills development through the prominent programs such as the Southern African Young Scientists Summer Program (SA-YSSP), the Southern African Systems Analysis Centre (SASAC) and other joint research initiatives.

Informed by the strong partnership during the past years, South Africa and IIASA are piloting new innovative approaches and platforms aimed at:

  • strengthening networking opportunities among the systems analysis research community in South Africa, at IIASA and other prominent research institutions across the globe;
  • strengthening linkages between the systems analysis research community and key stakeholders who make use of systems analysis outputs;
  • identify strategic stakeholders and their needs.

IIASA recently launched an exclusive networking platform called IIASA Connect to bring together the institute's community, which includes current staff, alumni, and National Member Organization (NMO) members and committees. This tool offers individuals the opportunity to engage with the IIASA network directly and is an opportunity for IIASA and its NMOs to build stakeholder maps through interactive engagement.

The goal of the event is to launch and introduce the IIASA Connect platform to the South Africa’s Systems analysis community and receive feedback from participants.

Gansen Pillay, CEO of RISA and Vice-Chair of the IIASA Council, and Albert van Jaarsvel, IIASA Director General, will open the virtual workshop. Then the keynote address on leveraging networks for increased systems analysis impact will be by Frans Swanepoel, Director, International Strategic Partnerships, University of Pretoria and IIASA NMO committee member for South Africa.

The event is by invitation only. If you belong to this community and would like to participate, please let us know.
