Biography
Thomas Oberleitner joined IIASA in October 2023. As part of the Agriculture, Forestry, and Ecosystem Services Research Group in the Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program, his research concerns the fusion of data-driven and biophysical models, as well as computational and optimization problems in agronomy.He holds a PhD in applied statistics from the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). In his PhD project within the biochemical engineering research unit, he developed models and methods for the regulatory validation of biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from the Vienna University of Applied Sciences (UAT Technikum Wien).
Before transitioning into a research-oriented role, he worked as a software engineer and architect.
