Teresa Deubelli-Hwang

Biography

Teresa M. Deubelli-Hwang is a researcher jointly associated with the Systemic Risk and Resilience Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program, the Equity and Justice Research Group of the IIASA Population and Just Societies Program, and the Strategic Initiatives Program. She first joined IIASA in April 2019 as part of the former Risk and Resilience Program.

At IIASA, she leads the Tools for Raising and Understanding Trust in Systems Science through Citizen Engagement (TRUST) Project, an IIASA strategic initiative exploring linkages between participation-driven science and attitudes towards science among the participating public as principal investigator. Her ongoing work at IIASA also includes research and stakeholder engagement on building resilience and managing climate-related risks, including through i) gender-inclusive, transformative resilience-building for the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance (ZFRA) and the newly created follow-up Climate Resilience Alliance (CRA) as gender and inclusion focal point; and ii) disaster risk finance and insurance for the EU-funded Cross-sector Dialogue for Wildfire Risk Management (FIRELOGUE) in partnership with the Insurance for nature - nature for insurance (NATURANCE) project. She previously worked on a systems innovation approach for the Climate-KIC 'Forging Resilience' Deep Demonstration, and as a facilitator of the IIASA-International Science Council (ISC) Consultative Science Platform.

Prior to joining IIASA, she worked at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as well as at the European Commission Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), among others.

She has a transdisciplinary background in public policy and governance analysis, and has studied at the University of Vienna, Austria; Dalarna University, Sweden; Sciences Po Paris, France; and at Seoul National University, Korea.
