Biography

Takuya Hara is a guest research scholar in the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. He works on the MESSAGEix global integrated assessment modeling (IAM) framework, specifically to extend the submodule of the transport sector.

He is also a researcher at Toyota Central R&D Labs. His work experience includes estimates of global biofuel production potential, vehicle population projection, and techno-economic analysis of vehicle technologies. His recent research activity is focused on techno-economic analysis of renewable power systems, mainly to identify mechanisms that determine the optimal solution and economic feasibility of the system.

Hara holds a PhD and a master’s degree in environmental studies and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tokyo.
