Biography

Sophia Götzinger is a guest researcher in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Ecosystem Services Research Group of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program, and a researcher in the Soils and Agroecology Research Group at the Austrian Agency of Health and Food Safety (AGES). She is currently undergoing training on the Environmental Policy Integrated Climate-based Global Gridded Crop Model (EPIC-IIASA) and learning how to apply, test and validate this model on one of the AGES long-term field experiments.

She has contributed to several European research projects, including Soil Health BENCHMARKS, MINAGRIS, and the European Joint Programme for Soil, working on the conceptualization and harmonization of a soil health framework and the effects of different agricultural practices on soil health dynamics. She is also contributing to the management of AGES long-term field experiments, where the effects of different agricultural management practices on the soil system are being tested. Götzinger also leads soil citizen science activities, for example, the SoilBlitz project for the Citizen Science Award 2025 and functions as AGES representative in an Austrian working group on school citizen science.

She holds an MSc degree in Natural Resources Management and Ecological Engineering from BOKU University, Vienna, Austria.
