Biography
Ping Yowargana joined IIASA in 2014 after finishing his tenure as energy sector coordinator for the Indonesian President's Delivery Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP4). At IIASA, his work focuses on enhancing the policy relevance of scientific assessments in the fields of nature-based solutions and sustainable energy in the tropics. He is co-principal investigator of the RESTORE+ project, which is among the most ambitious externally funded projects at IIASA with multifaceted objectives surrounding the topic of forest and landscape restoration.Ping leads RESTORE+ activities in Indonesia where the project team are working on, among others, building mobile and web-based platforms for participatory restoration potential assessment, estimating biophysical potential of agroforestry and forest restoration options, assessing socio-ecological trade-offs of restoration as a land use option, and supporting national policymakers in formulating sustainable land use policies. He also leads the work on spatially explicit power sector assessment for Indonesia, which aims at analytical integration between land use and energy system modeling.
He holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Tsinghua University and a master's degree in socio-ecological economics and policy from the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
