Biography
Pengnan Jiang is a Guest Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Pollution Management Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. His current work contributes to the development and application of the global fluorinated greenhouse gas (F-gas) module of the IIASA Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies (GAINS) model, focusing on F-gas emissions, mitigation options, and transition pathways. Prior to his current position, he was a PKU-IIASA International Postdoctoral Fellow.Jiang’s research interests include: fluorinated greenhouse gases, refrigerant transitions, and their implications for climate change and energy use, particularly in refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump (RACHP) systems. His work explores the combined effects of refrigerant substitution, energy efficiency improvements, and lifecycle refrigerant management at both national and global scales.
He uses bottom-up modeling, scenario analysis, and integrated assessment approaches to quantify refrigerant demand and banks, direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, mitigation costs, and climate impacts. His research also covers the implementation of the Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment, as well as emerging environmental issues associated with low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants.
Jiang received his PhD in Environmental Science from Peking University in China in 2024 and his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Northeastern University in China in 2018.
