Biography
Omid Zamani is a researcher in the Integrated Biosphere Futures Research Group of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program. He is an agricultural and applied economist specializing in food systems, agri-food policy, and applied economic modeling.He has held research positions at leading public research institutions, including Kiel University, ATB Leibniz Institute, and the Thuenen Institute. His work focuses on the quantitative analysis of food systems and agri-food policies, using econometrics techniques and modeling frameworks such as Positive Mathematical Programming (PMP), partial equilibrium models, and Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP). Currently, he works on EU agri-food policy analysis using the GLOBIOM model.
He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in leading applied economics journals, including the Journal of Agricultural Economics, Energy Economics, the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Natural Resource Economics, and Economics Letters, among others. His research has been recognized through the acceptance of a proposal for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship, which was not taken up due to family reasons.
He is a research scholar at the Economics Research Forum and an external habilitation candidate at Humboldt University of Berlin.
He holds two PhDs and three master’s degrees (including one visiting master’s degree) in agricultural economics, applied economics, and rural development, received from institutions in Iran, South Africa, Belgium, and Germany.
