Biography

Michaela Bachmann is a researcher in the Systemic Risk and Resilience Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program. She is currently working on two EU Horizon 2021 projects where she co-leads the development of a Climate Risk Assessment Framework (CLIMAAX) and contributes to the formulation of climate resilient pathways (Pathways2Resilience) for European regions.

Bachmann's academic background lies in Ecology and Political Science, fields that fueled her early interest in the multifaceted and interdisciplinary challenges posed by climate change. Throughout her studies, she familiarized herself with the rapidly growing knowledge base in this area and recognized the urgent need for further science-practice engagement. This observation, coupled with the slow progress in establishing binding greenhouse gas mitigation measures and their implementation, steered her focus toward climate risk management and adaptation. She holds a particular interest in the implementation of small- to medium-scale initiatives that have a direct impact on the ground, preparing society for climate change.
