Biography
Mia Werning joined IIASA in October 2021 as a research assistant in the Energy, Climate, and Environment (ECE) Program. She is part of the Integrated Assessment and Climate Change (IACC) Research Group and works on impacts, vulnerabilities, and risks arising from climate change in the water, energy, and land sectors. Before joining IIASA, she worked for a catastrophe modeling company in the UK where she gained insight into the probabilistic modeling of natural catastrophes such as floods, tropical and extra-tropical cyclones, and earthquakes. Prior to that, she was an analyst at the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Vienna, Austria, monitoring compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. She also worked in geophysical data processing in the UK after finishing university.
Werning holds an MSc degree in Geophysics of Natural Hazards and Resources, from the University of Hamburg, Germany. She also completed a BSc degree in Geophysics at the University of Hamburg and has vocational training in Information Technology.
