Biography
Joakim Lundgren joined the Ecosystems Services and Management Program (ESM) at IIASA as a Senior Guest Research Scholar in January 2017. He is contributing with technical and strategical expertise to the development of the BeWhere model.Dr. Lundgren’s research is mainly focused on energy systems analysis with special emphasis on bioenergy, biorefineries, biofuels for transportation, and efficient integration of biorefinery pathways in existing industrial infrastructures. He is furthermore working on cost-efficient localization of biorefineries with regard to integration possibilities, plant sizes and transport distances for raw materials and products and has been involved in work with the BeWhere model since mid-2000. Since 2014, Dr. Lundgren has been the Director of the Swedish Centre for Biomass Gasification (SFC), a national research program involving 10 Swedish universities and research institutes and numerous industrial companies. The program duration is 10 years and has a total budget of approximately 58 million Euro. Dr. Lundgren is also a member of the board as well as the program advisory board of The Swedish Competence Centre for Renewable Transportation Fuels (f3). He also leads the Systems Analysis and Bioeconomy research platform in Bio4Energy, a national strategic research program.
