Biography
Jinho Oh is a Guest Research Scholar in the Multidimensional Demographic Modeling Research Group of the IIASA Population and Just Societies Program. He is also an Associate Professor at Hanbat National University in Korea. His research focuses on two closely related areas: applied statistics and population projection. In applied statistics, he studies statistical modeling and data analysis methods, including multiple regression, multivariate analysis, and modern big data analytics. He is particularly interested in robust parameter design and statistical methods for forecasting pension reserves.
In population projection, he develops and applies methods for population forecasting, including region-specific projections based on specific scenario assumptions or stochastic approach. His work includes both parametric and nonparametric approaches, as well as Bayesian methods, with the goal of better quantifying uncertainty and improving interpretability.
More recently, he has expanded his work to include computational and visual approaches to demographic analysis. This includes text mining, such as word clouds and sentiment analysis, as well as the visualization of demographic components. He is also exploring microsimulation frameworks to examine how socioeconomic conditions influence population structure at the individual level.
In the past, he worked as Deputy Director at the Statistical Research Institute of the Ministry of Data and Statistics of Korea (former Statistics of Korea). He also held several other positions, including as a Visiting Fellow at the United Nations Population Division; Team Manager and Senior Researcher at the Retirement and Pension Research Institute in Korea; and Instructor at the Korea Military Academy.
He received his PhD in Statistics from Seoul National University, Korea, in 2010.
