Biography

Jincheng Li is a Guest Research Scholar at the Water Security Research Group of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program, and an Associate Professor at Minzu University of China. His research focuses on sustainable agricultural water management, non-point source pollution control, and anthropogenic nitrogen dynamics. His work combines hydrological modeling, remote sensing, and spatial statistical methods to assess long-term changes in water and nitrogen fluxes across scales, and to support environmental sustainability and pollution mitigation strategies.

He initially joined IIASA in 2021 as a participant of the Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP), and later served as a Research Scholar.

Li holds a PhD in Environmental Science (2024) from the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at Peking University. Since 2024, he has been conducting postdoctoral research under the joint Peking University-IIASA Postdoctoral Program (2024-2026).

His research has been published in a number of renowned journals, including Nature Geoscience, Resources, Conservation & Recycling, Ecological Indicators, and Science of the Total Environment. He has led or participated in over ten national and international research projects, including collaborations with the World Bank and China’s Ministry of Water Resources. His recent work focuses on the development of a nitrogen cycle module for the Community Water Model (CWATM) and its application in simulating nitrogen pollution processes across China.
