Biography
Chenwei Xiao is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Exploratory Modeling of Human-natural Systems Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program, where he works on land-use change and terrestrial carbon dynamics within the Earth system. His research focuses on improving the representation of land-use transitions, ecosystem disturbances, and land carbon dynamics in bookkeeping and reduced-complexity Earth system models. He received his PhD from Leipzig University and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Germany. His doctoral research investigated how land-use and land-cover change influence ecosystem resistance to extreme climate conditions, including drought and heat. Combining satellite observations, dynamic global vegetation models, and large-ensemble climate simulations, he quantified how anthropogenic land management modifies ecosystem resistance to drought and contributes to higher atmospheric dryness in the future.
