Biography

Anna Scolobig is a senior research scholar in the Equity and Justice Research Group of the IIASA Population and Just Societies Program. She was a postdoctoral researcher at IIASA from 2010 to 2013. Together with colleagues at IIASA, she has been working on, among others, transformational and equitable urban adaptation, governance pathways for a sustainable COVID-19 recovery, soft systems analysis, and integrated wildfire management strategies in Europe. She is also a senior research associate at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.

Scolobig is a social scientist by training and obtained her PhD on social vulnerability and resilience to extreme weather events at the University of Udine, Italy. In her work, she investigates the social, cultural, political, and institutional factors that influence risk related attitudes, behaviors, and governance processes. She has carried out research on how people live with risk, what risk reduction policies and measures they support or oppose and why, and what actions they are willing to take to reduce risk. Her research also supports policy- and decision making through processes that integrate technical options and stakeholder perspectives, for example, to co-design risk mitigation plans or people centered warning systems.
