Biography
Anastasia Aldelina Lijadi serves as Executive Assistant to the IIASA Deputy Director General and as the Institute’s Gender Equality Officer. She was appointed to these roles in August 2023, alongside her position as Chair of the IIASA Forum for Gender Equality and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Her mandate has been extended through 2028, during which she is leading the development of the IIASA Gender Equality and DEI Plan for 2026-2028.Lijadi first joined IIASA in 2017 as a Research Scholar under a European Research Council (ERC) grant, contributing to interdisciplinary research on human wellbeing through the development of new indicators related to sustainability and quality of life. Her transition into institutional leadership builds on this strong research foundation, enabling her to bring evidence-based, intersectional, and people-centered approaches to organizational change, governance, and inclusion within an international research environment.
She is a psychologist and researcher with expertise in global mobility and wellbeing and is particularly known for her extensive qualitative research expertise. Her methodological contributions include advanced analysis of asynchronous online focus group discussions, notably using Facebook as a research platform, enabling the study of geographically dispersed and highly mobile populations. In addition, she has conducted meta-analytical research on wellbeing indicators worldwide, synthesizing global evidence to critically assess how wellbeing and quality of life are measured across diverse cultural and policy contexts.
Lijadi completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Macau, where her dissertation received the 2015 Atlas TI Award for its innovative application of qualitative research methods. She holds a master’s degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy from the University of Saint Joseph in Macau and an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Indonesia. She currently serves as an Associate Editor of the International Journal for School and Educational Psychology.
Beyond IIASA, Lijadi contributes to global professional and academic communities through her volunteer leadership with Families in Global Transition, a non-profit organization supporting globally mobile individuals and families by fostering personal, professional, and academic connections.
