Biography

Alireza Atabati is an INSF-IIASA Postdoctoral Fellow in the Novel Data Ecosystems for Sustainability Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program specializing in geodesy and geomatics. He concurrently holds a joint postdoctoral fellowship at the K.N. Toosi University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. His research focuses on advancing tropospheric modeling and improving the accuracy of GNSS-based atmospheric analysis using both GNSS and smartphone data, with an emphasis on high-precision applications for geodesy.

His research interests extend to machine learning methods, including deep learning and optimization algorithms applied to ionospheric and tropospheric data. In addition to his research, Atabati has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring at K.N. Toosi University of Technology, where he lectures at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He also had the opportunity to further his research as a guest researcher at Leibniz University Hannover, where he collaborated with leading experts on the application of deep learning methods in geodesic research.

Atabati earned his PhD in geomatics engineering, specializing in geodesy, from K.N. Toosi University of Technology. His doctoral research concentrated on the modeling and prediction of ionospheric irregularities using satellite geodetic observations, earning him recognition for excellence in the field. He also holds a master’s degree in geomatics engineering and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on Geodesy, both from K.N. Toosi University of Technology.
