Biography
Alessio Mastrucci is a senior research scholar jointly associated with the Sustainable Service Systems and Transformative Institutional and Social Solutions research groups of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. His research focuses on modeling the energy and material demands of buildings at regional and global scales, assessing access to decent housing and thermal comfort, and developing scenarios for the building sector toward achieving climate and sustainable development goals. His research interests include energy and technology scenarios, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and linkages between energy and human development. His methods include building- sector energy modeling, integrated assessment modeling (IAM), material flow analysis (MFA), and life cycle assessment (LCA).He is the coordinator of the Sustainable Buildings theme at IIASA and co-lead of the Buildings working group of the International Energy Demand Changes Induced by Technological and Social Innovations (EDITS) project. He is involved in several international projects, including the Horizon Europe projects CircEUlar, NEWPATHWAYS, PRISMA, and SPARCCLE.
Mastrucci holds a PhD in Buildings, Architecture, and Structures and a master's degree in Building Engineering and Architecture from Universita Politecnica delle Marche, Italy. Before joining IIASA in 2016, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Universita Politecnica delle Marche and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, Luxembourg.
