Since 1995, IIASA's GAINS model has provided quantitative scientific analyses for the key air quality policy initiatives of the European Commission.
In numerous policy reports, model analyses highlighted the interactions between measures for different economic sectors, how they simultaneously contribute to a wide range of policy objectives of the European Union, and what they imply for Member States and different economic sectors.
Since 1995, IIASA has contributed scientific analyses of all key air quality policy initiatives of the European Union:
- The Clean Air Outlook to 2030 (2017-)
- The 2013 Clean Air Policy Package and the revised 2016 Directive on National Emission Ceilings (2011- 2016)
- The review of the EU air quality legislation up to 2020 (2006-2009)
- The Clean Air For Europe (CAFE) program (2000-2004) and the 2005 Thematic Strategy on Air Pollution (2005)
