Africa UniNet visited IIASA on 15 September 2023 to learn more about the institute and systems analysis as part of its Third General Assembly.

The Third Africa-UniNet General Assembly gathered over 140 representatives from 18 countries and 70 universities and research institutions. The event was hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), which is the IIASA National Member Organization for Austria, with support from key stakeholders such as the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research (BMBWF), the Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalization (OeAD), and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU).

As part of this assembly, attendees had the opportunity to visit IIASA in Laxenburg to gain insight into the field of applied systems analysis and its application in devising policies to address human impacts, enhance the adaptability of natural and socioeconomic systems, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. IIASA Director General, Albert van Jaarsveld, highlighted the institute's history and work, enriching the assembly's discussions on sustainable development and international collaboration.
