Biography

Dr. Ting Tang joined the Water Program (WAT) at IIASA in November 2017, as a Research Scholar. Her main task at IIASA is water quality modeling towards integrated assessment of global water resources and the associated solution options. She contributes to the development of the Community Water Model (CWatM), especially to the incorporation of water quality components into the CWatM.

Dr. Tang obtained her PhD degree in October 2017, jointly from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and University of Antwerp in Belgium. Her PhD focused on the characterization and modeling of pesticide use, behaviors and transport in urban environments. She developed the first catchment-scale spatially-distributed model that accounts for pesticide physico-chemical behaviors on urban artificial surfaces. Prior and during her PhD studies, she had multiple research stays at academic organizations including Capital Normal University (China) and Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Switzerland), where she worked on water quality modeling. Dr. Tang has a background in environmental science and obtained a Master’s degree in Ecohydrology in 2012 jointly from University of Algarve (Portugal) and IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education (Netherlands).

Her current main interest is spatially-distributed water quality modeling embedded in integrated modeling systems at various spatial scales (catchment, regional and global), with a focus on nutrients, salinity, pesticides among others. Other research interests include nature-based solutions for water quality issues and Remote Sensing applications in water quality.
