Biography

Sergey Sizov is a science diplomacy officer at IIASA, where he plays an active role in coordinating the institute's interaction with relevant ministries and agencies, intergovernmental organizations and NGOs, diplomatic corps, academic and business communities, supports IIASA science diplomacy activities, and performs other duties. He also acts as the Big Research Infrastructures for Diplomacy and Global Engagement through Science (BRIDGES) network secretary and alternate liaison officer for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s International Nuclear Information System (INIS) at IIASA. From 2020 to 2021, he was alternate leader of the Strengthening Science Systems Team of the IIASA-ISC Consultative Science Platform – a major project undertaken by IIASA in collaboration with the International Science Council (ISC).

Sizov holds a Master of Laws degree (honors) and an LL.B. (honors) from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) in Russia, where he specialized in public and private international law and European Union legislation. He also completed advanced courses of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the European Studies Institute (ESI, MGIMO University), and the Institute of Postgraduate European Studies, College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.

Sizov is an author of a number of research publications. He speaks English, French, and Russian.
