Biography

Dr. H-Holger ROGNER

For most of his career, Dr. H-Holger Rogner has been engaged in comprehensive energy system analysis, energy modelling, integrated resource planning, capacity building and knowledge transfer. Until his retirement from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2012, he directed the IAEA programme on Capacity Building and Nuclear Knowledge Maintenance for Sustainable Energy Development.

After his retirement, he re-joined IIASA, where he had started his academic career in 1975 and ever since has continued co-operation wherever his career path has taken him. In his position of part-time Emeritus Research Scholar, he contributes to IIASA's Energy, Climate, and Environment (ECE) Program. His research focus includes, but is not limited to, Pathways to Sustainable Energy Systems, Carbon Neutrality and the Nexus Climate, Land-use, Energy and Water (CLEW). The Pathways and Carbon Neutrality projects assist the United Nations Economic Commission (UNECE) and its Member States to chart out energy strategies and supporting policies that meet climate and energy security objectives consistent with their national sustainable development strategies. These projects make intensive use of IIASA's integrated assessment framework MESSAGEix.

Dr. H-Holger Rogner holds an MSc in industrial engineering (1975) and a PhD in energy economics (1981).
