Biography
Elham Sedighi is a research scholar in the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program, specializing in environmental sciences. Her work on the complexity of socio-ecological systems earned her the prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action award, facilitating her post-doctoral fellowship at IIASA.Her current research focuses on the implications of trade-offs within the water-food-energy nexus on socioenvironmental issues, particularly in transboundary river basins. Sedighi aims to find sustainable solutions that balance the interconnected needs of these systems.
She earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences and Land Use Planning. Her academic journey is marked by a deep commitment to addressing complex environmental challenges through innovative and soft methodologies, with an emphasis on foresight and scenario planning. She also specializes in stakeholder engagement and participatory planning, integrating diverse perspectives into environmental policy and decision-making processes.
Prior to her current role at IIASA, Sedighi made significant contributions to environmental governance in Iran through her work with the Department of Environment. In this role, she gained experience in international diplomacy by organizing summits and attending bilateral and multilateral meetings focused on promoting international cooperation in environmental protection.
She has also been a lecturer, teaching various environmental courses at several universities in Iran. Additionally, in 2018, Sedighi participated in the Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP), a specialized initiative for PhD candidates at IIASA.
