Biography

Edmar Teixeira is a crop systems modeler in the Sustainable Production Group at The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research. He is currently working with the Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program at IIASA where, from 2007 to 2010, he was a postdoctoral fellow with the Land Use Change and Agriculture (LUC) Program. His work at IIASA focused on assessing global impacts of heat-stress due to climate change and surface ozone pollution on the production of agricultural crops by using the FAO/IIASA Agro-ecological Zones (AEZ) methodology.

Prior to coming to IIASA in 2007, Dr. Teixera was a Fellowship Researcher in the Plant Production Systems Group at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. In 1998 he was awarded a master's degree in agronomy at ESALQ - University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), and in 2006 he earned his PhD in crop physiology at Lincoln University (New Zealand). From 1996 to 2002, he worked as a technical advisor for the food industry in central Brazil.

His research interests include crop physiology, crop simulation modeling, and the development and implementation of sustainable agricultural practices for adapting to climate change.
