This study focuses on the conditions for meeting the Paris Agreement targets, regional variation in the options for greenhouse gas removal, the scope for inter-region cooperation to reduce climate policy costs and how greenhouse gas removal technologies will interact with low carbon energy systems.

World Cover aims to produce, deliver and validate, as fast as possible, a global land cover map at 10m resolution with a mapping of a minimum of 10 land cover classes and a minimum overall accuracy of 75%. The project is user driven, aiming at a maximum impact of the global land cover map to a set of end-user organizations.

Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs) are invaluable for understanding the biosphere. However, as currently implemented by the international research community, these models suffer from a challenging accumulation of uncertainty. This project aims to address this problem by developing the foundations of a new generation of models centered on a “missing law” – adaptation and optimization principles rooted in natural selection.

The Water Scarcity Atlas seeks to share knowledge about water scarcity to a wider audience. This information, often available only through journal articles, has been used to develop a user friendly interface which allows users to explore how water scarcity has developed in the past and also explore how it might develop in the future.

This research project funded through the Systems Analysis Forum (SAF) aims to better understand the interaction between labour flows and capital flows in an economy. This work will help to improve the assessment of welfare dynamics and evaluate policies that can lead to higher levels of economic welfare.

Over the past 15 years unusually hot and dry summers have highlighted the financial vulnerability of European farmers beyond the arid regions of the Mediterranean. European policy makers have responded to increased agricultural production risk by providing premium subsidies from the community’s budget; these act as a risk-management instrument by decreasing the region’s reliance on ad hoc disaster relief.
