Abstract

In river basins around the world, populations face significant strain on their endowment of natural resources due to the growing demands for reliable, adequate, and safe water, energy, and food. Policymakers, tasked with protecting both human health and well-being as well as environmental resources, must develop sustainable policies and investments that can adapt to an interconnected and uncertain future. This session aims to examine the science and policy dimensions of sustainable management of the water-energy-food-land-ecosystems nexus. It will include 3 invited speakers followed by a panel discussion around nexus topics (e.g., modeling advances, policy impact, finance, stakeholder engagement, regional cooperation, sustainability, etc.).

Amin Elshorbagy, Professor, Department of Civil, Geological and Environmental Engineering and Global Institute for Water Security, University of Saskatchewan, Canada
