Biography

Florian Lindl joined IIASA in 2022 as a researcher in Geospatial Analysis in the Pollution Management Research Group of the Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. He specializes in the analyses, structuring, and processing of spatial data related to the IIASA Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies (GAINS) model.

Prior to joining IIASA, Lindl worked at the German Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy. As part of the research and development department he worked on the agency’s flagship project to create a digital twin of the country based on geographic and remote sensing data.

In 2019 he graduated with a BEng degree from Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences in Germany and is a qualified survey engineer. After his studies, he worked at the International Criminal Court to support the Office of the Prosecutor in their cases using imagery and geospatial intelligence.

Lindl also holds an MSc in Geographic Information Systems, which focused on environmental management from the University of Ulster in the UK. Following his master’s degree he joined the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in the Disaster Risk Knowledge Management Centre as a trainee to work on a multi-hazard disaster management platform.
