RPV researchers investigated the multiplier effects on economic development from foreign direct investment in solar energy (Desertec) in Egypt . The study was carried out in collaboration with the senior economist in the Cabinet of the Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt. It was found that deployment of renewable energy could also be beneficial for North African economies, mainly from horizontal technology transfer, as long as a significant share of components (higher than 40%) are manufactured in the region .
