In the area Optimal management of heterogeneous resources ASA researchers will continue to analyze stylized dynamic models of size-structured populations with asymmetric competition for resources, focusing particularly on exploring the stability of stationary solutions and the analysis of tradeoffs between the economic and environmental goals faced by forest commercial management.
In the area Endogenous economic growth: Drivers and impacts ASA researchers will continue to advance the theory of optimal control for problems on the infinite time horizon and considering stylized models of economic growth under technological, social, and environmental constraints.
In the area Attainable solutions and model sensitivity ASA researchers will continue to develop methods of control theory and optimization theory responding to the needs of applied systems analysis.
In the area Food-energy-water nexus: Robust solutions ASA researchers will continue to advance methods of stochastic optimization and will contribute to developing IIASA models integrating the food, water, and energy sectors.
In the area Indirect effects and informational entropy in natural and human networks, ASA researchers will continue to explore relations between the network properties underlying a system and system functioning and well-being.
In the area Network dynamics and contagion effects in natural and human systems ASA researchers will continue to model ecological and financial systems and explore how shocks and stresses being experienced by an element of a system propagate throughout the network and affect the entire system.
In the area Strategic interactions in multi-agent systems: Game-theoretic approach ASA researchers will study the robustness of decisions with respect to players’ utilities and to the relaxation of players’ behavioral preferences.
In the area Managing uncertainty in climate science and meeting sustainability constraints a highlight will be the publication of the book Flourishing within the Limits co-authored by Brian Fath.
In the area Data analysis revealing behavior patterns ASA researchers will produce their first results on the FP7-funded COMPLEX project which deals with identification of land-use patterns in relation to economic development in a region.
In the area Resilience of regional economies the agent-based model of regional economic development will be customized for Korea.
