The World Population Program contributes to Human Development Report

The World Population (POP) Program made substantial contributions to the 2013 UN Human Development Report "The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World," which examines the profound shift in global dynamics being driven by the fast-rising developing world and the implications of this for human development.

The population and human capital data and projections developed by POP in collaboration with the other partners in the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital (the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the WU-Vienna) were used throughout the 2013 United Nations Development Programme's Human Development Report.

World Population Program Leader Wolfgang Lutz and POP researcher Samir KC also wrote a background paper for Chapter 4 of the Report, which focused on policies and projections for sustaining development improvements.

Following the main launch of the Report on 15 March 2013 in Mexico City, POP co-organized its launch in Vienna.

At the launch in Vienna POP Leader Wolfgang Lutz gave a keynote entitled "The Human Resources Based Approach for Human Development."
