In the light of demographic transition in Europe and its multifarious consequences, such as environmental issues and economic and social sustainability, this event will address the political challenges for the future. The discussion is based on a statement entitled „Mastering Demographic Change in Europe“, published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) together with several National Academies of Science, which summarizes considerations and recommendations for future measures.

POP Program Director Wolfgang Lutz and Research Scholar Alexia Fürnkranz-Prskawetz have been invited to give introductory statements and to participate in the subsequent discussion.

This is the first event in this new series organized by the ÖAW, which offers an overview on complex topics with includes perspectives from different fields of expertise.
