His research is focused on eco-genetic modeling of human-induced (i.e. dams and fisheries) evolution in anadromous fish in general and sea trout in particular. Other research interests are fish ecology, fisheries management, and population genetics.
Dr. Östergren received his master’s degree in biology at the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies, (former Dept. of Aquaculture), Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umea, in 1998. He received his PhD in biology from the same university in January 2007. His thesis work focused on migration biology and population genetics in Atlantic salmon and sea trout.
