A fair energy transition - a challenge for Europe

The international conference entitled "A fair energy transition - a challenge for Europe" will take place on 10-12 September, 2014 at the Panthéon Sorbonne in Paris.  IIASA's Deputy Director General, Dr. Nebojsa Nakicenovic, will deliver the keynote presentation to open the first plenary session.

The conference is built on the conviction that energy transition, in order to be feasible and sustainable, requires an understanding of the underlying social justice issues. The challenge is to go beyond current discussions on technical aspects and to focus on the social justice issues involved in the energy transition.

Dr. Nakicenovic will introduce the opening plenary session and will discuss energy and other social  transitions throughout history.  He will touch on both the agricultural and industrial revolutions which  preface the required grand transformation of our current global energy system to meet present and future global development challenges, both environmental and social. His presentation is entitled: "Energy history: from the Industrial Revolution to the Global Energy Transformation."
