Dr. Leena Ilmola-Sheppard, Senior Research Scholar at Advanced Systems Analysis Program, and Mr. Sergey Sizov, Science Diplomacy Officer, participated in the First Preparatory Meeting of the 26th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, which took place in Vienna on 22-23 January 2018. The role of digital economy as a driver for innovation, competitiveness and growth were the focus of this year’s event.
Dr. Ilmola-Sheppard moderated the Session on “Enhancing good governance, transparency and the fight against corruption through digitalization” with Mr. Adilbek Mukashev, Head of Department of the Agency for Civil Service Affairs and Anti-Corruption in Pavlodar, Republic of Kazakhstan; Mr. Dražen Maravić, Director of the National Academy for Public Administration, Serbia; Ms. Gvantsa Meunargia, Head of Strategic Development Unit, Analytical Department, Ministry of Justice, Georgia; Ambassador Vaidotas Verba, Project Co-ordinator, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, as speakers, and Ms. Amanda Szalczynski, Adviser on Economic and Environmental Affairs at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the OSCE, as Rapporteur.

On the margins of the First Preparatory Meeting Dr. Ilmola-Sheppard and Mr. Sizov discussed IIASA-Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) ongoing cooperation and possible future interaction in the sphere of digital economy with H.E. Ms. Karine Minasyan, Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Internal Markets, Information Support, Information&Communication Technologies of the EEC. They also met with Ambassador Vuk Žugić, Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, and other representatives of the diplomatic corps, business community and academia.
