Energy Security in the Multipolar World

Global Energy Assessment coordinating lead author Dr. Aleh Cherp (Central European University and Lund University) presented the energy security main messages of the GEA at the Royal Society in London at the closing conference of the Energy Security in the Multipolar World project.

The Energy Security in a Multipolar World project is a research cluster funded by the ESRC/EPRSC in the United Kingdom.  It brings together three overlapping disciplinary research areas of expertise: energy policy, international relations and supply chains; and seeks to stimulate new parnerships and proposals. Led by the University of Exeter and the University of Sussex, it examines a range of issues, including:

  • oil and gas supply chains
  • energy infrastructure
  • vulnerability of supply chains
  • international relations in a multipolar world
  • development of new technologies and their supply chains
  • concerns about delivery and availability of low carbon technologies
  • institutional changes required to deliver major cuts in energy demand
  • potential of individual and local actions to improve energy security
  • legal implications and possibilities

Coordinating lead author of GEA Chapter 5 on Energy Security, Dr. Aleh Cherp presented the results of GEA during the final closing conference of the project.  He participated in the opening plenary entitled: "Energy Security in a Changing World", alongside other leading experts in the field.
