IIASA to collaborate closely with Jordan

Following a visit by IIASA Director General and CEO Pavel Kabat to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in March 2015, both IIASA and Jordan agree to closer cooperation.

As part of IIASA’s global strategy, IIASA is investigating how to develop closer collaborations between the Institute and countries in the Middle East.

In March, IIASA Director General and CEO Professor Pavel Kabat and his Special Advisor, Professor Chin-Min Lee, visited Amman to explore areas of common research interest and opportunities to collaborate together.

During the high-level visit, Kabat met with:

1. HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal

2. HE Dr Hazem El Naser, Minister of Water and Irrigation

3. HE Dr Labeeb El Khadra, Minister of Higher Education

4. HE Dr Khaled Elshuraydeh, Secretary General, Higher Council for Science and Technology  

5. Dr Ghaleb Ma’abrah, Secretary General, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources

Following these meetings, both IIASA and Jordan agreed to collaborate more closely.

Recent Research Collaborations with Jordan or about Jordan


IIASA researchers have recently conducted the following research about Jordan or with researchers from Jordan:

  • Projections of Jordan’s future population;
  • Public acceptance of large-scale renewable energy installations in Jordan; and
  • Modeling air pollution.

Partners on these studies include scientists from University of Jordan.
