Mediatization shapes public discourses and influences the way in which the SDGs are discussed. Communication plays an important and sometimes decisive role when it comes to the awareness and acceptance of the SDGs. Digitalization and globalization also pose new challenges and opportunities for all stakeholders, including the scientific community. This symposium, organized by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), will highlight these aspects, discuss the consequences across disciplines, and examine the implications of research related to the implementation of the SDGs.
IIASA Director General Albert van Jaarsveld, Deputy Director General Nebojsa Nakicenovic, and Wolfgang Lutz, IIASA World Population Program Director, will join a number of leaders from government and academia, such as Anton Zeilinger, President, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Heinz Faßmann, Minister, Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, and Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General, United Nations.
