IIASA at the III International Conference Risk Management in Energy

This year due to the coronavirus pandemic the International Conference Risk Management in Energy is held in the format of webinar. On the invitation of the Russian Deputy Minister of Energy IIASA provides scientific input to the discussions.

IIASA Advanced Systems Analysis Program researcher Nadejda Komendantova will give a joint talk with representative of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on risk management in the energy sector.

The Extraordinary G20 Energy Ministers Meeting in April 2020 stated, that coronavirus pandemic significantly affected energy security of many countries. In order to overcome its consequences and minimize risks, global cooperation and coordinated solutions are needed.

The aim of the III International Conference Risk Management in Energy 2020 is to discuss the global energy transformation, impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis on energy security, energy digital transformation as a tool for risk management, and other issues. Various panel discussions will provide insights on risk-oriented models for energy sector, including generation, transmission, and distribution.

The conference will be opened by Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, and Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.

Nadejda Komendantova will provide insights on the multi-risk governance framework for energy generation and critical infrastructure transmission, including highlighting various phases of disaster risk reduction cycle.

Among other speakers of the conference are Sun Xiansheng, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF); Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Christian Baer, Secretary General of the Association of European Energy Exchange (EUROPEX); and James Watson, Secretary General of Eurogas.

Numerous representatives of the member states and observer countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) are expected to take part in this event.
