IIASA, Laxenburg
Ambassador of Kazakhstan, former IIASA member country, had an introductory meeting with IIASA Director General and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Albert van Jaarsveld. Ambassador Sarybay was briefed about the institute’s research agenda and the development of the IIASA Strategic Plan for 2021 to 2030, which is currently being prepared in close cooperation with both internal and external IIASA stakeholders.
During the meeting, the IIASA research project “Challenges and Opportunities of Economic Integration within a Wider European and Eurasian Space”, focusing on plausible futures of economic cooperation in the Greater Eurasian space and interplay between different integration processes in the region, and IIASA collaboration with the OSCE in its Economic and Environmental Dimension (Ambassador Sarybay is the Chairperson of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee) were among main topics discussed. Ambassador Sarybay highly evaluated current interaction with IIASA and noted, that he is in favour of more systemic relations between Kazakhstan and the institute.
Ambassador Sarybay was accompanied by Abzal Alibekov, First Secretary, Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Austria / Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna. From the IIASA side Iain Stewart, Head of External Relations, Communications and Library Department, and Sergey Sizov, Science Diplomacy Officer, External Relations, Communications and Library Department, participated in the meeting.
